SOMA’s Chinese Restaurant Standard
March 24, 2011 at 11:00am | Posted by Michael Orrfelt (SOMA Guy)

Canton Seafood & Dim Sum Restaurant has something I like in a Chinese restaurant: the fish tanks out where you can see tonight’s dinner. All the standards are well-prepared and it is a fun dim sum alternative to slogging over to Chinatown. Even has banquet space if you are entertaining a regiment. What’s not to like? On Folsom at Hawthorne, up from Third Street.

French cuisine with a great selection of wines in SOMA

Isn’t it comforting to know you can get terrific Basque-inspired French cuisine and wine pairings seven nights a week? And lunch at Fringale is excellent, too. It is an intimate space but never seems crowded. Owner Jean-Marie Legendre is usually on hand to greet the Francophiles and keep things formidable.

Nothing says commitment like picking out window coverings. When you are ready to commit, the pick of the shops is National Blinds. Israel, the owner (not the country), has built a superior company in every respect. He takes a hands-on approach to all aspects of the business. His installation and service are top-rated. He works with the biggest and best manufacturer, Hunter Douglas. And he works with designers, if you have one. On Brannan at Gilbert alley near Seventh.
